THE RUMI FESTIVAL 2009-11-09
NOVEMBER 21-22th AT COSMOPOLITE

OSLO VOGTSGATA 64

A FESTIVAL INSPIRED BY THE POET RUMI AND HIS PHILOSOPHICAL AND MUSICAL HERITAGE

Rumi has inspired storytellers, researchers, musicians and poets for 800 years. Rumi loved to arrange parties and at every party there was entertainment – poetry, dance, music and discussion. This tradition The Rumi festival wants to evoke . The Rumi Festival presents this year several unique concerts, performances and seminars at Cosmopolite in Torshov. And it is also a focus on Snorre Sturlason, who was one of Rumi’s Nordic contemporaries.

On Saturday and Sunday we offer a variety of musical performances under the headline East meets North. You will hear familiar tunes, new combinations and pure, foreign styles that have never been played in Norway before! Experience SUFISTICATED – a fusion of Turkish Sufi music and electronica. SHISH MAGHAM is “palace music” at the point of intersection between the Persian and Chinese musical traditions. Master Dolatmand and Rolf Erik Nystrøm will combine Falak music with improvised saxophone and Kristin Groven Holmboe’s vocal. Award winner Morteza Goodarzi from Khorasan in Iran visits Europe for the first time. He plays dotar and sings love songs based on Rumi’s texts. The energetic and charismatic story teller Mikael Öberg comes from Sweden to give us stories from Snorre’s Saga. British Duncan Mackintosh and Ashley Ramsden have toured the world with their show “Voice of the Heart” and will finally stop by at the Rumi Festival. Do not miss the free children’s performances on Saturday and the Rumi seminar which will deal with the issues of shame, identity and gender in the poetry of Snorre and Rumi.
